In Hiwane, we met lots of children colecting water for themselves or their families before school. Here are some of their stories.
Sennit Hailekiros Age 9
“I am going to the market and to meet my brother in the town. I have clean water at school because they have a hand pump.”
Yosef Weldu Age 5
“I don’t go to school but come here once in the morning to fetch water. I have three brothers and an older sister. I have never been ill from the water.”
Assefu Kasaye, age 26, told us about her experience:
“I come and fetch three jerry cans per day. I come in the morning and evening to fetch water and in day I come and wash my family’s clothes. I have two sons who both go to school.”
Hiwane Elementary School is well served with taps, latrines and a Sanitation Club. FInd out more about life at school in Hiwane here .
