Mai Gbitsi - water reaches the school

This village was in the mountains outside Hiwane, 71km from Mekele. There is a church and a school, and they have a gravity flow scheme, biogas and traditional pit latrines which have been in place for about 2 months. One of these water points fed by the gravity flow scheme is at the school.

We were greeted fantastically by the villagers here, with traditional Tigraian dancing and singing. The children from the school all marched down the hill towards us, shouting “welcome, welcome” and clapping their hands before joining in with the singing.

The women of the community perform a traditional welcome dance for us
We notice a line of children marching down the hill in the distance
The children get nearer and we can hear them clapping and shouting 'Welcome, Welcome!'
