Each water point in the villages that we visited was watched over by a guard. At this water point in May Ayni, the guard was Haile Adhana and he is paid in 'excess' water. This means that any run off water is collected in a pond so that no water is wasted, and this water is used by Haile to irrigate his garden. He grows vegetables for his family to eat and he can sell the remainder at market. Sadie and Serge from Ecover joined him in weeding his lettuces.
