Muuze Gedaye was collecting water from Adi Awna Waza's new hand pump during our visit, and told us more about it: “I like the pump – it’s like a game! I come here twice a day at 6am and 5pm. I used to collect from the river but it gave me bad stomach problems, pains in my tummy. I knew that the water was the problem but there was nothing else. I used to share the water at the river with the dogs, wild animals and cattle.
This new one is much better – before I used to have to make a hole, dig a pond then scoop out the water. I used to waste time at the river – it took so long – but now all I have to do is pump the handle!
Now I have time to collect wood for fuel and to study. I feel happy, no more problems, there’s a change in health and I have time for my homework. I’m enjoying it very much.”
