Prior to setting off for Ethiopia my emotions are already running high. We’ve been talking about the project for months, I’ve had many preparation meetings with WaterAid, all my jabs, received by visa and read the ‘Northern Tigray’ chapter of my newly purchased Ethiopia book from cover to cover but I still don’t really feel prepared. I’ve never been to a developing country before and I know that nothing can prepare me for what I’m going to experience there.
Arriving at Heathrow I feel more nervous than excited. I meet up with Serge (Ecover Belgium) first and I’m pleased to see he has more luggage than me! Then Rona and Naomi from WaterAid arrive, followed by Marco our photographer and Mark, our cameraman. After a few hiccups with getting Mark and Marco onto the flight due to a mistake by the travel agency, we have a mad dash through departures and onto the plane to begin our journey.
