What? Water?
Enormous disappointment on the side of my son (4 years old) and daughter (8) when they heard that ‘water’ was the answer to their question about how their father, like a male Mega Mindy (Flemish cartoon super hero girl), was planning to solve all of the problems in the whole of Ethiopia within one week’s time. With water???
Their innocent reaction clearly illustrates the banality of this subject. How can something as simple as water create such complex problems? But is there anyone out there who doesn’t remember those gripping, arresting images of the famine in Ethiopia? Images of children: weakened, powerless, dispirited, and indifferent to the plague of hundreds and maybe thousands of flies. Waiting for death. Water in Belgium…just one turn of a tap and it simply gushes out.
